After-School Programs
Printable Fit-Tastic Map
Children across Wood County are giving their bodies and taste buds a workout thanks to Fit-tastic – an after-school program that emphasizes nutrition and physical activity like yoga, kickball, nature walks, soccer, and circuit training. The program helps kids get excited about fitness and reach the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity every day. In addition to the fitness component, kids are sampling fresh produce like mango, kiwi, jicama, and snap peas, and are learning how to help out during meal time at home.
About 1 in 3 Wood County third graders are overweight or obese, according to a 2009 Wisconsin Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Fit-tastic strives to reduce these numbers through a two hour program that children participate in twice a week, providing easy access to healthy activities for kids who may not otherwise participate in sports or regular physical activity.
