We are surrounded by unhealthy choices, and the overall health of our country reflects that environment. The majority of communities support a food environment that focuses on convenience, fast food and large portion sizes, while neglecting fresh fruits and vegetables. For a moment, consider the alternative scenario: instead of fast food dominating the street corner, mobile vendors sell fresh food. Instead of high calorie, fat, and sodium options abundant on restaurant menus, there are healthier alternatives. Instead of donuts and muffins in the worksite break room, a bowl of fruit is available.
About HealthyFoods2Worksites
We are pleased to introduce HealthyFoods2Worksites, a simple toolkit designed to help your business achieve a healthy food environment; one that supports the health of your employees and shows that you value their well-being and the future health of your community. The toolkit is flexible, providing you with options to meet the needs of your organization: from healthy, on-the-go snacks and meals in vending machines to Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) at worksites and guidelines for healthier foods at meals for work parties, meetings, and events. The goal of HealthyFoods2Worksites is to make the healthy choice, the easy choice within our workplaces.
Healthier food environments provide an organization with a multitude of benefits:
- Improves work climate
- Improves recruitment and retention
- Reduces absenteeism
- Increases productivity
- And most importantly, improves the health of your employees
