Farmer's Market

Get Active at Your Local Farmers Market

Farmers markets are a long standing tradition in Wisconsin. You’ll find the season’s best bounty of vegetables, fruits, flowers, meats, cheeses, and specialty products, and you’ll also have a great opportunity to meet local farmers and other neighbors at the market.  Purchasing locally-grown and seasonal foods benefits the economy, environment, and personal nutrition in many ways, so enjoy the tastes, the relationships you develop with producers, and the knowledge that you are doing something good for yourself and for the earth.

Farmers markets are great venues for hosting a variety of special and educational events!  Check out Central Wisconsin Farmers Markets on Facebook for up to date event information!

Tips for Shopping the Farmers Market

Before you leave home, take a moment to look through these shopping tips so you can get the most from your visit:

  • Arrive at the market early; take time to walk through and preview the entire market before buying so you can choose the best selection.
  • Bring your own bags and a cooler with freezer packs to keep any meats and dairy cool while you shop.
  • When using cash, farmers appreciate small bills and change.
  • Try something new! It’s part of the fun of farmer’s market shopping.
  • Ask farmers about their produce or product. Questions may include how the food is grown, how to prepare the produce and different cooking methods for different varieties.
  • Plan your recipes based on seasonal ingredients.
